A data logger (also datalogger or data recorder) is an electronic device that records data over time with a built in sensor. Increasingly, but not entirely, they are based on a digital processor or computer. They generally are small, battery powered, portable, and equipped with a microprocessor, internal memory for data storage, and sensors. Some data loggers interface with a personal computer and utilize software to activate the data logger and view and analyze the collected data, while others have a local interface device (keypad, LCD) and can be used as a stand-alone device.
In the ICT class, we were introduced to data logger and need to carry out one experiment that use data logger. Based on my experiences of data logger, I found some advantage of using data logger while doing some experiment. There are :
- New innovate experiment possible
- Can save time as the work is done by data logger
- More than one sensor can be use in one time
- Can directly plot the graph
- Can directly read humidity value as before this (traditional) we need to calculate the humidity value by using formula
- Better understanding of scientific experimentation
But, my friends and l also found some disadvantages from data logger, which are :
- Some people may not like working on computer system
- Loss of conventional methods of data collection
- Reducing practice of graphing skill
As a conclusion, data logger give more advantages especially for me, a “ teacher to-be” as we need to make our T&L process more interesting and efficient.
